Slacker (1991)

I stumbled across this experimental gem from Richard Linklater about 7 years ago and finally gave it a rewatch. A very creative direction to connect unconnected stories. Like 'Clerks' this a great example of the power of writing with low budget film making. Very interesting characters.

Man Of Steel (2013)

[SPOILER] [SPOILER] [SPOILER] [SPOILER]

A fantastic modern adaptation of Superman. Some mild unrealistic scenes, like Lois being rescued unscathed out of the space pod.. There was so much debris and exploding.. This is a pretty common flaw in most super hero movies. The CG seemed video gamey at times, which is not good in cinema. And there seemed to be some Metal Gear Solid influence in the design of the Kryptonian spacesuits, which is not a bad thing. It felt like a cross between Dragon Ball Z, Metal Gear Solid 4, and The Matrix at times; so fitting that Laurence Fishburne has a role. The story is awesome. Supreme logic is a term I first used to describe the mindstates of Kevin Smith's characters in Clerks. Again there is a form of supreme logic being followed by Superman and the other Kryptonians. I am definitely hungry for more back and future story of this universe.

Chasing Amy (1997)

Kevin Smith delivers with his intelligently witty characters and regular group of actors again in this awesome love story. This film is overflowing with emotion. He really encompasses the time, given I was only 9, I feel this is an accurate portrayal of 1997. I love the technique of interlocked and intertwining stories and characters which Mr. Smith utilizes. There is a reference to Clerks, one of his earlier films. This has turned out to be more of a Kevin Smith review than Chasing Amy, but fuck it. If you've seen one of his films then you know what you can expect! If you haven't, do yourself a favor and appreciate some hilariously intelligent dialogue.

Clerks (1994)

INTELLIGENT! WITTY! HILARIOUS! BRILLIANT!

This movie is a perfect example of the power of writing. It's very low budget and mainly takes place inside of a convenience store. Kevin Smith's characters in this film are all so strong, very reminiscent of Richard Linklater's style of writing. They are extremely intelligent and rational with each other as if they are obeying some supreme form of logic. They speak so open and free and most importantly with purpose and confidence. The message is simple, truth is the easiest and most efficient way of life. Don't lie to yourself, take full control of your freedom and believe in yourself. I recommend this movie especially to anyone interested in film making, and also to anyone who loves very articulate conversation.
